Walking

Straddling the Highlands and the Lowlands of Scotland, Perthshire offers up a stunning variety of scenery: from the densely forested highlands (aptly named “Big Tree Country”) to the rolling mountains surrounding Loch Tay, you’ll find beautiful walks to suit every age and stage.

Alyth sits on The Cateran Trail - a superb circular long-distance route that straddles the border between Perthshire and Angus. This trail takes in secluded Strathardle together with parts of Glen Shee and Glen Isla. Taking its name from the marauding bands of cattle thieves known as Caterans who brought terror and bloodshed to these glens in times past, the landscapes are now a peaceful idyll.

Just a short walk or drive from the hotel you’ll find The Den of Alyth - a lovely 22 hectare woodland on the western edge of Alyth with paths crossing the Alyth Burn. It is designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) due to the upland oak woodland within the gorge. Many of the paths are suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs. A huge variety of flora and fauna can be spotted within the Den, and the paths provide for all abilities, with both a picnic area and children's play area along the way.

Walking routes for all abilities (and weather conditions!) can be found here.
